Monti District
The oldest district to visit in Alberobello, as well as the most visited and touristic area. Here you will find more than 1,000 trulli distributed among its narrow cobbled streets, as if you were in an open-air museum. The area has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Despite the large crowds of tourists, Rione Monti retains much of its traditional charm. Today the trulli of Rione Monti host bars, restaurants, hotels and numerous shops where it is possible to buy handicrafts, ceramics, souvenirs and try the typical delicacies of the region.
Aia Piccola District
The other district of the monumental area of Alberobello is that of Aia Piccola, smaller but equally beautiful to visit. Unlike the other district, it has managed to keep its past appearance almost intact, retaining part of its atmosphere of an ancient medieval village.
Trullo Sovrano
This trullo is different from all the others. The peculiarity lies in its size, and in fact it is the largest of all. It is located in Piazza Sacramento, outside the monumental area of Aia Piccola, just behind the Basilica of San Cosimo and Damiano. Due to its large size, since 1916 it has been known by all as the Trullo Sovrano. Just think that it is the only two-story trullo that can be visited in Alberobello.
Trullo Church
Dedicated to San Antonio da Padova and built in 1927, it is one of the two main churches that can be seen in Alberobello (the other being the Basilica of the Medici Saints Cosima and Damiano). The particularity of this church is the trullo shape, with a 21-metre high dome and an 18-metre high bell tower.

Located within the Casa Pezzolla complex, it is made up of 15 trulli communicating with each other, in which the history of the trulli since its beginnings is shown, as well as the origin of the city of Alberobello.
HISTORY of the TRULLI of ALBEROBELLO
Knowing the history of the trulli and Alberobello has fascinated us so much that we will try to present it again briefly. The Trullo is a house built with limestone walls and a cone-shaped roof. It is a type of architecture typical of the region that can be found scattered across the fields and in some villages. The origin of these dry stone buildings, generally grouped in small communities, is not entirely clear, but it is estimated that they date back to the Middle Ages. The name, Trulli, derives from the Greek word tholos, which means "dome" and recalls the cylindrical shape surmounted by a cone typical of these buildings. The thickness of the walls and the absence of openings, with the exception of the entrance door, allow for thermal insulation of the inside of the structure (cool in summer, warm in winter). The roof is made up of chianche (limestones that create the internal part of the roof, which is self-supporting) and chiancarelle (the outermost layer made up of smaller slabs). The roof is completed by a stone decoration that takes on the most varied forms. Furthermore, propitiatory symbols that may have pagan or Christian origins are often painted with lime on the "tiles". Legend has it that the farmers who lived in the trulli demolished their houses when they knew that a tax inspector would arrive. When the debt collector left, the trulli were rebuilt.
