Lama Monachile
Definitely the most photographed point of Polignano, also known as Cala Porto. The view from the 19th century Bourbon bridge will make you understand why Polignano is one of the most beautiful towns in Puglia. Lama Monachile is easily accessible, just follow the Via Traiana, the road linking Rome and Brindisi.
Arco Marchesale (Marquis Arch)
To access the historic center of Polignano a Mare, just enter the ancient gate of the Arco Marchesale, better known as the "Arco della Porta" or "Porta Grande". In fact, this point divides the old part of Polignano from the more modern one.
Historic Center of Polignano a Mare
The oldest nucleus of the town of Polignano a Mare is located just after the Arco Marchesale and is characterized by its white houses. A truly special place where you will come across many terraces directly overlooking the sea. Lose yourself in the stone-paved alleys and admire the poetry that characterizes this village. We said poetry, yes. In fact, you will find here and there various poems and phrases by an author who signs himself as "Guido il Flaneur". Squares of Polignano a Mare
The town of Polignano has three squares, the fulcrum of its life: Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi and Piazza Aldo Moro.
Clock Tower
In Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II you can find one of the most famous palaces of the city, the Palazzo dell'Orologio or Torre dell'Orologio, once the seat of the university. Do you think that even today this watch is wound up manually by the owner of the building.
Mother Church of Santa Maria Assunta
Also in Piazza Vittoria Emanuele II you will find the Mother Church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, a very interesting church that houses the remains of the patron saint, San Vito.
Sea Caves
Do not miss a visit to the sea caves of Polignano. More than 70 marine cavities have been formed along the entire coast due to sea and wind erosion. Through a boat tour you can admire splendid caves such as the Blue cave, the San Lorenzo cave, the Rondinelle cave, the Guardiano cave, the Chiangella cave and the Palazzese cave.
Grotta Palazzese
This is undoubtedly the most famous. Think that it was even mentioned in the works of Diderot and D'Alambert. In the 1700s a feudal lord transformed it into a magnificent place with a terrace and hanging gardens. The cave was once connected to the Palazzo Marchesale thanks to a bridge that would have reached the "Porta Piccola", which no longer exists. This is why the origin of the name of Grotta Palazzese. Currently the cave houses the exclusive "Palazzese restaurant", one of the most beautiful and renowned in the world.
Domenico Modugno Statue
Polignano is also the birthplace of the singer-songwriter Domenico Modugno. Who knows if it was the blue of the sea of this city that inspired the famous song "In the blue painted blue". Today the artist is celebrated with a bronze statue on the waterfront. Behind the statue, a fantastic panoramic terrace from which it is possible to admire Cala Monachile and the entire historic centre.
San Vito Abbey
Not very far from Polignano, we suggest you take a trip to San Vito and its marvelous beach where you will also find the Benedictine Abbey of San Vito, right next to the sea.

Don't miss the Scoglio dell'Eremita, just outside Polignano. A large rock in the middle of the sea that can be reached with a pleasant walk along the seafront or by boat. The rock is linked to myths and legends according to which the rock would be there due to the throwing of a giant during a tournament between legendary creatures.
If you have some free time, we also recommend visiting the Pino Pascali Museum of Contemporary Art, the only foundation dedicated to Apulian contemporary art.
Travel towards Monopoli up to Cala Incina where you will find one of the watchtowers typical of the Adriatic coast, and admire the Grotta della Sella, a rock that creates a sort of bridge over the sea.
